SOPREMA Marks 50 Years of Innovation with SOPRALENE®

Industry-Leading Building Solution Continues to Set Standards After Five Decades

WADSWORTH, Ohio, February 27, 2025 – SOPREMA, a leading global manufacturer of roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope solutions, proudly celebrates the 50th anniversary of its flagship product, SOPRALENE. Since 1975, this SBS-modified bitumen membrane has provided reliability, durability, and performance in commercial roofing and waterproofing applications.

SOPRALENE was commercially introduced to the market in 1975, offering elasticity, flexibility, toughness, and resistance to extreme temperature fluctuations. Today, SOPRALENE membranes protect structures across the globe, including thousands across the United States, from iconic skyscrapers and government facilities to hospitals, schools, and commercial buildings.

"SOPRALENE's 50-year legacy reflects our commitment to quality and innovation," said Tim Kersey, CEO of SOPREMA U.S. " This milestone acknowledges the trust that architects, contractors, and building owners have placed in SOPREMA for half a century. We're proud that SOPRALENE continues to be the gold standard in modified bitumen membrane technology."

As SOPRALENE enters its next half-century, SOPREMA continues to evolve the product to address current sustainability challenges. The SOPRALENE product line now offers SOPREMA's ECO3 technology, which incorporates 3M™ smog-reducing granules.

“For every 200 squares of product installed, ECO3 granule-surfaced membranes can offset emissions equivalent to those produced by a vehicle driving 8,000 miles. Or, to give another equivalency, 200 squares of ECO3 membrane installed on a project has the same positive environmental impact as planting 120 trees,” said Alan Rosencrans, Technical Director.

This environmental approach represents just one way SOPRALENE has adapted to meet changing market needs. The product line has expanded over the decades to include solutions for various climate zones, application methods, and project requirements while maintaining its core design and waterproofing protection.

SOPREMA remains focused on advancing building envelope technology while building on SOPRALENE's established legacy.
